Our tentative list of ok's are similar to Jessi's...
- Services
- Food
- Things you can't or shouldn't buy new (undies, oil, gas, toilet paper, furnace filters)
Things not ok to buy new but ok to find as hand me downs, second hand stores, ebay, craigslist, garage sales etc. (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) Things on this list if bought new would come from the new purchases fund.
- Clothes
- Household items (furniture, kitchen stuff, etc)
- Toys
- etc.
Things to avoid all together are things that produce extra waste... napkins, paper towels, single serve individually wrapped food items (minus the stuff already in the house), etc.
And yes if I was a die hard compacter, I would abandon disposable diapers but alas, I am not. Disposable diapers are my friend and although horrid for the environment, I'm pretty sure using disposables at this point would be more stress than its worth. Now if we would have endeavorerdon this journey when JT was a baby, then maybe but now at 20 months, well, wouldn't be worth the investment to switch at this point.
We may have to make up some rules along the way which will help when we do our second month of the compact later this fall!
And so our journey to be a bit greener and more aware of our spending (particularly impulse spending typically at Target/Walmart) begins.

One day down, 30 to go! I also included pull-ups in my "ok" list. Yes, I agree -- not in true Compact spirit. But, some things have to give. Good luck!
