Addy's First Halloween Party

Last night we went to a friends house for a Halloween pumpkin carving party. Miss Addy had a ball playing with all of her little friends. They all dressed up but a picture of all of them together just wasn't happening now that they are all mobile. When they were little we would line them all up on the couch and there they would sit, guess those days are over!

So here is a sneak peak of RAINBOW CHICKIE!

Walking for a good cause...

This morning a group of girls and us did a walk for brain cancer research (adult and peds).
It started out a little chilly so we bundled up! And ended up being a gorgeous fall day! Addy and Mallory came a long in their strollers and slept most of the 3 miles, must have been a good day for a nap!

More Fall Pictures!

Last Friday was part of MEA which meant that Jared had the day off! He and Miss Addy J decided to go spend time with Grandma Deb and check out the nursery. It turned out to be a rainy cold icky day but they still got a little break to take some fall pictures.
So CUTE!

Beautiful Fall Weekend

What a beautiful fall weekend! Well our laptop is back, if you scroll down a couple of posts you will see a couple more pics from our play dates last week.

This weekend was packed with fun! Aunt Robyn came and spent the weekend with us. Friday we went to Northwoods Apple Orchard. It was a little chilly but Addy enjoyed a hayride around the grounds, picked out a pumpkin for a pumpkin carving party next weekend, and got to go through the petting zoo.

Saturday we hung out, went to lunch, and I got to work on Addy's scrapbook some. I have a whole shoebox full of pictures from June until now that still need to be done! Who knew I had SO many pictures of her!! I have been trying to be a little more selective of which pictures I am putting in, but she is SO cute, how can you pick just a couple from each event! And so, her scrapbook gets fatter and fatter. I was hoping to keep her first year in one, but it is looking like maybe two for her first year will be happening. I tried to figure out why I have so many pictures and then it dawned on me... Digital Cameras. It used to be that you would go to an event with one roll of film, take you pictures, and you hoped to have a few from the event that turned out. Now with digital, you can take hundreds, see if they are good at the time of shooting, and keep taking more without even coming close to using up your disk space.

And so it goes, I am THAT mom. The one who is taking pictures all the time any chance I get! Who could resist this face!

12 years

For the past twelve years I have often wondered where I would be if my life's path had taken a different turn. I sure wouldn't be in the amazing place in my life that I am today. Twelve years ago today, I was in the hospital, in isolation, facing an unknown future, and praying for the best outcome. It was the day I received my bone marrow transplant, Day Zero, the day of the infusion. I remember the awful smell and taste of the DMSO preservative as the marrow was infused, I remember being thankful that another cancer friends mom had brought cinnamon candies to drown out some of that taste. I remember the infusion and how cold it was since the marrow was just thawed. I remember the hope that it instilled knowing that it was my first official day cancer free and the fear that loomed of the "what ifs". This would be the day we would remember yearly as BMT Day. Day Zero. Every day from there on out would be and has been a gift. It was 48 days later when I was finally dismissed from the hospital still being supported by daily infusions of blood products. But I was out. Slowly progressing back into being normal again.

When one faces such challenges and the possibility of death at a young age, it changes them. It makes them realize things that most others their age would never have to deal with. It makes you grow up faster than you should and helps you learn what is truly important in your life and who is truly important in your life.

Throughout my cancer journey my family was my biggest supporters who were there through the struggles and celebrations. Through every up and every down. Through the hope and through the fear. The other cancer kids and their families were an extended family who knew exactly what it was like and who were so supportive to help each other out and make the hospital a safe familiar place. It was the nurses who you relied on, who really cared, who helped you through those scary times.

When one goes through such a life altering experience, you always wonder what it meant or what you are supposed to do with it. I believe that if me having cancer has helped someone else through their life journey then it was worth it. I have met numerous young newly diagnosed pediatric cancer patients and if talking with them gave them the slightest bit of hope, of comfort, of knowing they weren't alone. Then it was worth it. Having cancer is what made me decide to be a nurse. I now can give back as those nurses who had helped me through my journey, now I can help others facing illness and understand the stress and fear.

Cancer...It shapes you, it molds you, it lifts you up, and slams you down. So when I think of the "What ifs" I remember how lucky I am not only to have survived but to have had cancer lead me down the path that my life has taken. If there is one thing I am sure of, no matter how much having cancer sucked, I would not be in this place today with my amazing husband and beautiful daughter.

So when thinking of the future, remember that life is a journey and to enjoy the journey on the way to your destination. Live for today, live in today, and let tomorrow come in its own time for when tomorrow is here, today is gone.

The Mama Test

A friend sent me this forward and I thought it was hysterical so I had to post it..... So for all of you mom's out there....

The Mama Test :

I was out walking with my 4 year old daughter. She picked up something off the ground and started to put it in her mouth. I took the item away from her and I asked her not to do that.
'Why?' my daughter asked.
'Because it's been on the ground, you don't know where it's been, it's dirty, and probably has germs' I replied.
At this point, my daughter looked at me with total admiration and asked, 'Mama, how do you know all this stuff, you are so smart.'
I was thinking quickly. 'All moms know this stuff. It's on the MamaTest. You have to know it, or they don't let you be a Mama.'
We walked along in silence for 2 or 3 minutes, but she was evidently pondering this new information.
'OH...I get it!' she beamed, 'So if you don't pass the test you have to be the dad.'
''Exactly' I replied back with a big smile on my face.

So True!

Busy Week!

We have had a busy week and past weekend. We had numerous playdates at the park with different baby and toddler friends. Addy refuses to walk without holding my hand at the park! It seems to be hard for her to walk on the woodchips and sand. She loves crawling through all of the play areas at the park and enjoys the swing as well.

Grandma came and spent the day with us Saturday so of course we went shopping and got in some quality time!

Monday night we went all the way up to Brooklyn Center to Ta's Salon to get a consultation for Addys hair. The lady there had taught a class at our agency on ethnic hair. The appointment went great! She showed us how to do a couple other styles and which products would work well for her texture. It was nice to hear that I was doing well and that her hair was very healthy. So Miss Addy is set (and so am I). Yay for beautiful healthy curls!

Pictures to come soon. We should get our laptop back at the end of this week so I will post pictures and video of her cruising around this weekend.

Cruising....

What a difference a few days makes!
Friday: 4 steps in a row
Sunday: 10 steps in a row
Monday: walking across the room
Tuesday: letting go and walking to her toys without being prompted by mommy or daddy
Today: she left the room and headed down the hall!

It has become very obvious to us that she is overly motivated and will be cruising soon! She still crawls when she needs to get to something quickly but seems very proud of herself when she walks and claps when she gets to where she was heading. She is still taking little wobbly baby steps but I am sure once she figures out how to take bigger steps that we will all be in trouble!

On another note, our laptop took a trip to Hawaii without us! A friend borrowed it to watch DVD's on the airplane. So why am I telling you this? It means no pictures or video posted until late next week.

Would you wear this???

Our sleep caps have arrived! OK, so its a little silly looking, but still pretty cute. No this is not to wear out in public. It's a satin sleep cap. Addy will wear it at night which will help protect her new hair styles so that they last longer, help protect her hair from damage, keep her hair more moisturized. So if you are ever around for bedtime, this is our new bedtime baby!
